First time OT here

Due to some problem in Beijing team, I need to handle their project and tonight I need to work until 10pm, first time for OT in the new company.
Hope things go fine.

Don't lose heart

According to the doctor in Tuen Mun hospital, the lung cancer for my father is not those typical types, in other words, they don't have realistic statistic on how large is the chance to cure, or how dangerous it is.

All we can do is to start the chemotherapy as soon as possible and hope the cancer cells will be greatly decreased, so that he can receive another stage of the treatment - radiotherapy.

2 new toys

Yesterday received an email from FON about a $20 Antenna, directional, with larger range.
Today I collected it during lunch hour.



And today I bought a silicone case - iDevil for my iPod Shuffle, lovely.

Now TV

今日安裝了 Now TV, 諗住畀退休的父母, 得閑可以睇多d節目, 睇戲睇波等等.
下午就安裝好了, 但由於電腦同 Now TV 的 TV box 都要 share modem, 換了一個新的 ADSL modem,
有幾個 LAN port 的, 開頭以為係可以做埋 router, 原來唔係... 試了好多次, 又 dhcp, 又 pppoe 都係上唔到網,
後來試試看另一個 router (dd-wrt) 就得了, 可能是 openwrt 的問題吧, 明天才算...

Meeting with foreign colleagues

Today there are some foreigner colleagues came from Taiwan, Korea, US and Singapore, to have a sales training in Hong Kong office.
I have to hurry about some projects so I cannot join the training, in fact it is quite sales oriented which doesn't suit me though.
Finally we left office at 6pm to have a nice dinner in Central, afterward, Sherif brought us to an Egyptian bar to have drink and let us see "waterpipe", a special way to smoking. It is nice but I won't try...
Tomorrow will have training too, but I cannot join as well.

Cheapest USB Bluetooth Adapter

I have been finding USB bluetooth adapter for quite a long time, but most of the adapter I saw were around $150 in price, which is quite expensive for a small pieces of hardware.
Today I saw a very cheap USB bluetooth adapter in Tuen Mun, a small computer shop, only costs $49! And now I can get back all the photos on my phone.

Family Issue (2)

Finally got the report of my father's situation from the doctor today.
Middle age of lung cancer, with bad cell on left lung, and some infection to the right lung.
According to the doctor, my father's heart has a little bit problem too, so a cutting is not possible,
only method is radioactive treatment now, which actually not 100% effective to the situation,
most of the time, the treatment can only slow down the development of the cancer, so that
the patient will survive for some more years.
Anyway, we all accepted the fact and not as unhappy as we think.
Enjoy every moment.

My P4i45GV motherboard is not Linux friendly

Yes, I used my P4i45GV motherboard for long time, but only for the onboard display.
Today I got a P4 2.4GHz CPU and a NVidia GeForce MX 440 old display card back home.
After inserting both stuff, Windows boots up normal, but all of my Linux distributions - Ubuntu, Gentoo, Fedora, RHEL5, crashes with kernel dump once it start.
With a search on google, the problem is about the AGI slot, which is a modified AGP slot from ASRock, to provide AGP display card support on i845 chipset (which normally no AGP support). Normally, when we inserted a display card on the board, the onboard display chip should be turned off, or disabled, but luckily Linux still detects it and crashes once initialize it.
Finding a way to make it works... but seems not easy.

休息了2天, 敏感情況好了九成, 現在只有少少地方有紅疹似的東西出現, 明天應該可以痊癒了.
不過, 還未知道什麽是致感的原兇...

Ganglia Monitoring System

Ganglia is a very light weight monitoring system for monitoring computer resources, it is mainly used in cluster environment to monitor the health of each node in a cluster.
Ganglia has 3 component, gmond, an information collecting daemon, gmetad, agent for collecting machine data for the machine it is running on, and a php web interface to see the data.
How it works?
1. gmond needs a configuration file /etc/gmond.conf, in the file, it defines the cluster name and location and to collect what kind of data from this host. This daemon need to be ran on every machines in the cluster.
2. gmetad needs a configuration file /etc/gmetad.conf, the file has the host list of the cluster, and the daemon will keep polling those hosts to get their status and various other information and keep in a rrd database.
3. the web interface basically read the stored data and present to the system administrator in a nice way.
Let me run them for a whole night and see any good information tomorrow.
